1. comments from CA2: I can communicate my own work(proces) in an inspiring way. I can present the choices I made from idea till the design. I am able to use different ways of presenting
2. actions/experiences/insights:
I am working hard on getting more confident about the work I make and presenting myself and my work in that way as well by lots of practicing. Every time I talk to someone who doesn’t know what I do, I can practice my ‘pitch talk’ to shortly and clearly communicate my what I do. Especially now with online education/working from home it is becoming more important to experiment with the possibilities of online presenting. Hotglue allows for more creative ways of presenting, because you can create a website with things to click on making it more interactive and fun to scroll through. I used it for CA3, but also for my project ‘cabinet of curiosities’, and for an online zine for EUC. Next to that zoom and teams are most often used for classes and also events, here I have done some more ‘traditional’ presentation with the online difference that it was online. The downside is that you have less interaction with your audience while presenting, it is hard to see everyone and feel the atmosphere. But a plus point is that we now get to experiment and be creative with other ways of presenting.

This year the portfolio event for third year students took place online. We had four rounds of each around 25 minutes, so we were able to talk to 4 professionals from various work field in small groups. I talked with Marien Jonkers, Paul Faassen, Max Kisman, and Katta and Jeffrey from the Red Floor Gallery. We had a few minutes to present ourselves to them. Unfortunately, due to technical issues (another downside of online) we were not able to share our screen. Thus, we were only able to talk and describe our work very shortly. I luckily did think about the environment that people could see behind me: I sat in front of the metropolis poster I made in the first year. Because it was so big people could notice it and this way get a glimpse of what I do. When talking to Max Kisman we shortly discussed it, how I clearly referenced to a 70s style with the colors and shapes I used. So, it also served as a sort of conversation starter, and in the first place I actually wanted to share my conversation piece that I made this year. Its simple visualization could help me in talking a bit about my personal visual style as designer. I did show it before to Isa (graduate wdka) and she immediately responded by saying how clearly it showed my vision/way of working.

I already started my Instagram art account a few years back. I use it to slowly build a platform, sharing the things I make for school, but also random sketches and ideas. This is an easy way that allows me to share my work with the outside world and have interaction with people through my work.

Now that I’m starting to contact internship places, I also have to think about how to convincingly present them my work, communicate with them and to make myself stand out. I have not yet decided but I will definitely send something like my conversation pieces or some work that triggers their interest with the mails I will send.
