1. comments from CA2: I am able to develop artistic ideas and translate them to a design. In my own way, i am able to add something to it. I force myself to experimentation, trying out different ways to visualize/make work
2. actions/experiences/insights:
For the assignment ‘publication’ we had to make a publication in the broadest sense of the word for a specific target audience and publisher. My final project was a carpet that consists of multiple tiles that the audience can place in the preferred position to create a unique design. The chosen publisher was IKEA. For the first proposal I created I made some examples of possible designs, but I wasn’t satisfied with my designs for the tiles, they weren’t really based on anything and therefore it was unclear if they would be fitting for the audience. Then I went back to my sketches and found some simpler circular designs and ended up with the idea of ‘Truchet’ tiles, which I used for my final design. This design is still fun but more suitable for a larger audience, as it can create more simplistic and bold carpets. This is important since IKEA is the publisher and their audience consists of all kinds of people, so the product should be very accessible and fitting for different kinds of spaces.

So, I tried to use my interest in a bit of math, patterns, and games to create a visually appealing but also functional carpet. I started with the punching needle but then learned to tuft which was a quicker and easier technique to create more tiles. I picked some wool yarns in a variety of colors to try out different combinations in a tile.

two pages of examples I created that show the possibilities of the different patterns/shapes you can create
I also made a quick gif showing how the webpage would look like, where you can play with the designs online
